American Crime

It has been said that past results are no guarantee of future success, but that wall tile text is no need to come to John Ridley. If in 2013, as the spiritual father of 12 Years A Slave, he already regularly raises an Academy Award, Golden Globe or BAFTA Award, in 2015 he will be heard again, this time with American Crime, a series that in all probability get under your skin so as not to leave it for the time being. Things are restless in Modesto, because war veteran Matt Skokie is killed in his own home during a violent burglary and his wife Gwen is pushed into the ambulance more dead than alive on a stretcher. In its search for the perpetrators, the judicial system quickly arrests a number of suspects, but the question is whether it was guided by the hard facts or by the deep-seated prejudices that still hold America in its grip. Meanwhile, tensions among Matt Skokie's next of kin are mounting and his hero status is slowly but surely taking a slightly different light. Actually a lot of misery, so. Yummy. American Crime is one that you would not immediately expect to come from ABC. With titles such as Grey's Anatomy, Modern Family and Scandal they mainly make nothing-to-the-hand television and you can say a lot about American Crime, but it is not exactly simple snack work. With the focus on racism, addiction and the struggles of twisted families, you would rather expect this from the HBO's, AMC's and Sundance Channels of this world. At least I do. Yet this time ABC is the sender and as far as I'm concerned they do that not without merit.

Incredibly beautiful series. The tension builds up every episode, and the acting is great.
