What should I think about when someone points to Naples in the Bosatlas? So many garbage bags in the streets, you'd think you're watching a Nickleson jacket fan day, the greatest little footballer ever, playfully holding up the leather before skilfully brushing aside Bayern Munich and of course what Italy is all about worldwide known… No, not grown guys who still live with their mother, but the mafia. And Sky Atlantic has put together a very cool series about the latter. In Sicily they have the Cosa Nostra, in Naples that mess is irregularly grouped under the name Camorra. In 2006, Roberto Saviano wrote a book about these kings of extortion, drug trafficking and muscle-rolling and it served as a blueprint for 12 episodes of delicious raw misery. Napoli has a mayor, but in fact it is the Savastano family who rule the dark alleys of the Italian port city. Son Genny doesn't really care about the fact that his padre runs a family business and is mainly busy spending all the money that his father has added to his bank account in an extremely creative way. When Dad ends up behind bars in a very clumsy way, the question arises who should keep his empire going for the time being. Gomorrah is no Romanzo Criminale, but it doesn't matter very much. It has that jenesai squoi that makes many European series so enjoyable to watch. Little frills, rawness (yes, that's just a word) and no rush. The ending offers the possibility of a second season and I would wholeheartedly welcome that. What I would also welcome is a McDonalds delivery service, but that is completely separate from this.
