Set in 1960 New York, MAD MEN reveals the lives of the ruthlessly competitive men and women of Madison Avenue’s “Golden Age”, where key players make the art of the sell while their private lives get sold. And no one plays the game better than Don Draper (Golden Globe®-winner Jon Hamm), the biggest ad man – and ladies man in the business.

How you can remain fascinated by a series in which apparently nothing happens for six seasons. A look at the advertising world in fifties New York. Just to watch Don Draper casually roll out Heineken across the United States with the voluptuous derriere of his secretary in one hand and a heavily smoking Lucky Strike in the other. Mad Men nestles with childish ease in the list of Sopranos, The Wire, Carnivale, Homeland, Game of Thrones, Borgen AKA compulsory homework.

This series is not for the generally ill-educated and stupid (ill-informed) TV viewer. You don't have to explain anything to the real Mad Men fans, they know how brilliant this is and why. Only for those with style and class, depth, patience!

Admittedly, not much happens in Mad Men. That alone says enough about the quality of the screenplays, because you keep watching for six seasons. Unlikely and intelligent series, I find this, really with nothing else to compare. My wife is watching and that also means something. She's a much tougher critic than I am (grin).

It's a series you have to get into. The characters are extensively explored. It wasn't until episode 7 or 8 that I started to get into it. And the storyline gets stronger. The 1950s-60s are portrayed very well in everything. All in all, a series worth watching.
